Melbourne Visitor - lunch at Burwood

TODAY WE HAD LUNCH at Burwood with Kin Fong, Foong Peng, and Melbourne STOBA visitor Ng Tuck Weng and his dear wife Veronica who lives here .

Tuck Weng visits his family at Templestowe a few times a year but this is the first time all of us meet as a group. By this you would know that he is one of those "astronauts". In my conversations with him he told me that he had set up his Aussie home here (the second time around) since 2001! So he is no stranger after all to the Aussie way of life. In fact he would be our "Sifu".

The lunch was Cantonese fare. Rice with a few dishes. The environment was quite good, non-intrusive, and not many customers were at lunch this day. I think everyone enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Certainly we had time to catch up on the latest in our lives and families.

After lunch we adjourned to Glen Waverley to have some iced beverages as today was a hot day with a shade temperature of 33 C. Yet again we took the opportunity to catch up on what are on the cards as far as our near future travel plans are......

So all of you STOBA fellas out there reading this why not make Melbourne your next holiday destination?

CNY 2010 family dinner

THIS YEAR MY BROTHER Nick who lives in Singapore is able to spend some time with Mom and Dad for Chinese New Year. We had our "Reunion" dinner at a local restaurant, one that we frequent and like. However Wai Ping & kids were not able to join us .....

The boss and chef of the restaurant is a Hong Konger and his wife is a Malaysian Hakka who hails from Seremban.

Due to the full house we felt that the food we ordered did not live up to our expectation ....

Nonetheless we were able to have a family time together.

Malaysian friend, Teo, came to Melbourne to help set up his daughter's home. He rang me to last night arrange for a flight around the Bay area. I contacted Tri Star and hired their G1000 equipped Cessna 182. The plane is only used for commercial operation and so we had to hire a charter pilot as well. I ended up back seating the flight....

We were going to do a left hand orbit around Melbourne city but at Albert Park lLke Geoff put a call in to Essendon and we got told to wait OCTA. There were a bit of traffic in play around the area and the airspace was rather busy.

Teo decided to nick out of there without doing the city orbit and he tracked us to Philip Island, French Island and back to Moorabbin. Nothing spectacular ty me as I have done this....hundreds of times!

Still it was a good day to get out there in bright blue sky.

Yeah... we went out to Springvale for Pho as well. Talked about a few things... he might place his C182 to Moorabbin from KL as he anticipates staying in Melbourne a bit, in future. For a while we were wrapped up excited talking about him ferrying his airplane to Australia. One thing that puzzled me a bit was that he said he would have to fly from Bali to Darwin.... Hmm, this does not sound like an usual route to me. More like Port Moresby to Darwin?

Beautiful day

Lunch for Dad

Now that I have a bit of time I have uploaded recent activities. By activities they are .... of course food with the family.

We try to meet every few months usually at a restaurant. And this time we have a lunch for my dad for his 83rd birthday. Dad is still quite healthy, thank God. Considering his age he has a good memory and relatively free of ailments. Lately he has been getting me to look after some of the things he want all of us to remember, which worries me.....

Anyway it was a Malaysian fare, again. A restaurant at the other end of Blackburn Rd, "famous" for its Char Kuey Teow and Hainanese Chicken Rice. I think the chicken dish is a let down. The family liked the steamed fish, curry fish head, tofu and prawn dishes. Anyway we can't really find that many restaurants that are comparable to the ones in Malaysia and so we just accept the reality! Anyway if we stick with what we like this is a passable restaurant.
