POSSUMS IN MY FRONT YARD

A SEQUEL TO MY "birds in my backyard" is "possums in my front yard"!

Surely my blog mate and friend will comment; "What! animals again?" when he reads this! Ha ha ha.....

Possums are part of suburban living. They are protected animals in Victoria and we cannot catch them or kill them. Strange but true.

A friend of mine who lives in Ampang has posted pictures of monkeys loitering on telephone cables and running on roof tops. Bushtail Possums are just like these monkeys. They come out after night falls for food and water. Since they are afraid of humans and other feral animals they "walk" on cables from their hiding places usually trees or people's roofs. Many of them squeeze through small openings in roofs and take up residence there. I used to have 3 possums in my roof for a few months. They were making lots of scratching noises in walls and our fire place chimney. Not knowing what they were we set mouse traps to no avail. We talked to people and they thought it was possums. Finally we saw them coming out at night for food and we managed to seal the openings and blocked them going back in!

Tonight I saw this fierce looking possum eating cherry fruits in my front yard

Yes sir.... by the way every time I see these possums I will chase them away with a broom. They are nuisance. And sometimes I spray them with a h2o jet right into their eyes. So when these buggers see me around they run the hell for shelter.... (go higher up in the trees)
